Khayelitsha Playground

A playground in Khayelitsha, which is designed as a safe node for the neighbourhood. According to the Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrade (VPUU), the murder rate in the area has declined by a third (especially in areas where urbanization has happened.)

Have you ever heard about the study where a deserted car left for two month in a neighbourhood leads to increased crime in the whole area? (first the wheels go, then the rest, then comes the graffitti and the hookers) – this is true in reverse also: Add some real nice places and maintain them, liek a playground, a fountain with a bench and a statue or something, and you achieve a more noble approach to the area.
