The Hope Factory, an enterprise development organisation based in Port Elizabeth, has teamed up with Bay TV station to identify entrepreneurs in the fashion industry to design and produce outfits for their presenters.

“We want to look at ways that we can assist local businesses to be seen. This is also an opportunity to educate the designers on what works well for TV,” Bay TV deputy station manager Lungile Nduvane said.

Four entrepreneurs, Sipho Ntlangu, Siphiwo Sume, Nolizo Speelman and Luvuyo Zinco, from The Hope Factory’s entrepreneur support programme in Port Elizabeth, were selected to design and produce outfits for presenters on four Bay TV shows.

In return, Bay TV offers the entrepreneurs 16 minutes on air to promote their businesses and also runs banner advertisements at the beginning and end of each show to promote them.

Jackie Gossman, senior executive for mentoring and training at The Hope Factory, said: “Our programmes are geared specifically toward developing both the individual and the business. Through ongoing one on one mentorship, training in technical, life and business skills as well as the range of services offered to our entrepreneurs, their businesses are geared for continued growth and sustainability.”

Nduvane said Bay TV had a variety of productions weekly and when they needed a designer they matched the show’s profile to the style of the designer.

“For example, Luvuyo Zinco of Zinco Clothing, who specialises in versatile evening wear and contemporary euro-African styled casual wear, will dress presenters on the About the Bay show, which showcases young influential individuals in the Nelson Mandela Bay area,” Nduvane said.

Zinco said he believed the exposure would help boost his sales. “It is a great opportunity for me to market my designs and promote my business,” he said.

Bay TV is aired in Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and Despatch and can also be seen on DSTV channel 260.
