South Africa should stop obsessing with politics and start innovating

June 7, 2014

Lest we forget, in past 7 years, South Africa has lost at least 2 major (futuristic) technologies we were global leaders: Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) and electronic cars…

…On a more positive note, we continue to pioneer advance technologies like coal to oil, protein alternatives, rapid radar and cancer scanners.

Being a nation of advanced technology innovator and investing in R&D is equally important as other parts of the economy.

My biggest problem is that we’re bombarded with political news, and at times we forget that we need to get on with the business of building the country by growing the economy.

We’ve just voted (feels like yesterday, but it was 4 weeks ago) and we’re still talking politics…politics…politics…We seem to take more pride in political speak, and less in innovation, exploration, creativity and invention.
