What has happened to the pot of gold at the end of our rainbow

June 8, 2014

Friends (fellow country men and women), please enlighten me as I grapple with this issue…

In 20 years of democracy and being the “rainbow nation”, why is that so little is invested in improving the lives of people living in our peri-urban locations or townships?

Is it so wrong to build “economic enabling” infrastructure like call centres, business parks, tech hubs and light industrial/factory hubs in our townships?

Service delivery is NOT building RDP “settlements”, unimaginative schools, police stations and hospitals, that respond to ever increasing population growth…services delivery is developing sustainable communities, enabling economic growth and capacitating sustainable livelihoods (by creating new taxpayers).

South Africa is a small and rich country, with human capital and mineral resources, yet our people remain poor, deeply depressed by adverse poverty, desperate for opportunities and our ideas seem equally poor…please help me understand!
